About the role
Role Overview
We are seeking a Tableau Administrator / System Application Analyst with strong expertise in managing and supporting enterprise Tableau environments. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Tableau Desktop, Tableau Prep Builder, and Tableau Server (Cloud) along with a solid understanding of enterprise infrastructure, including networking, security, authentication, and system administration.
This role requires an operationally disciplined, security-conscious, and proactive professional with strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to collaborate with IT teams, business stakeholders, and vendors to ensure platform stability, performance, and governance.
Key Responsibilities
Service Management
- Manage and fulfill Tableau-related service requests in ServiceNow , including routing requests related to Tableau Catalog and Business Intelligence Analytics.
- Triage, investigate, and resolve Tableau incidents logged in ServiceNow.
- Support development of new Tableau ServiceNow catalog items and maintain Tableau application records in the CMDB.
Access & Content Management
- Manage user onboarding/offboarding, group memberships, role assignments, and permissions.
- Administer Tableau content including workbooks, data sources, projects, and flows .
- Maintain content ownership, certification, and archiving standards.
Platform Administration
- Provision new business units or teams onto the Tableau platform.
- Maintain Tableau repository metadata, tags, ownership standards, and documentation.
- Manage Tableau license assignments, reclamation, and compliance tracking.
- Maintain Tableau connection strings and service account credentials.
Security & Compliance
- Investigate and route security vulnerabilities for mitigation.
- Manage SSL certificate renewals and validation for Tableau Server.
- Perform governance audits covering licenses, scheduler, metadata, permissions, and access controls.
- Support enterprise security changes such as firewall updates and infrastructure testing.
Backup, Monitoring & Maintenance
- Execute and validate Tableau Server backups and ensure restore readiness.
- Monitor logs, alerts, and system behavior to proactively identify issues.
- Track platform health, performance, and capacity trends.
- Support and validate monthly Windows patching activities .
Vendor & Stakeholder Engagement
- Engage with Tableau vendor support and manage technical support cases.
- Conduct deployment reviews with vendor teams and recommend improvements.
- Communicate maintenance schedules, downtime notifications, and platform updates to stakeholders.
Governance & Documentation
- Maintain Tableau governance documentation, operational runbooks, and solution design artifacts.
- Support governance reviews and audits.
- Build analytics dashboards for platform usage, performance monitoring, deployments, and audits.
Community & Operational Support
- Moderate internal Tableau community channels and respond to user queries.
- Participate in Tableau community events and knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Provide advisory support to business teams on Tableau capabilities and best practices.
Platform Optimization
- Identify and implement platform improvements and operational enhancements .
- Support new data connectivity requirements including firewall configurations, drivers, and connection setup.
- Manage Tableau Server configuration settings including TSM configuration, topology, scheduler, and IP whitelisting .
- Install and maintain Tableau plugins and extensions.
Critical Event Support
- Support platform monitoring during critical operational or storm events , including non-office hours when required.
Required Qualifications
- Strong hands-on experience administering Tableau Server, Tableau Desktop, and Tableau Prep Builder .
- Experience supporting enterprise BI platforms within large-scale infrastructure environments .
- Familiarity with ServiceNow for incident, request, and CMDB management .
- Knowledge of networking, authentication, SSL certificates, SMTP, patching, backups, and security best practices .
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collaborate across IT teams, business users, and vendor support teams .
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting Tableau Cloud environments .
- Knowledge of BI governance, metadata management, and platform analytics .
- Experience with enterprise security and infrastructure changes .
- Prior experience managing Tableau licensing, deployments, and platform optimization initiatives .
